What is Adult Day Care

  • According to the 2000 census there are 3,407 adult day centers operating in the United States, serving primarily people with dementia (including Alzheimer’s disease) and the frail elderly who do not have dementia.

Adult day centers do not cure, but can provide necessary health care and social support, provide opportunities for friendships, decrease isolation and keep families together longer.

Adult day care programs in Arizona provide seniors with support including meals and other community services during the day so that the senior’s regular caregiver can go to work, do the shopping, or head out for some social time without being concerned about the wellbeing of the senior.

As the interest in alternatives for community care grow, the number of different adult day care centers and programs grows as well.  In fact, there is so much variety and opportunity offered by these programs, that they are now becoming a preferred form of care for seniors. Each adult day care center serves clients with specific health and mental needs. Individuals who need adult day care may want to attend a center that serves people with similar needs and characteristics.
