Group Homes in Arizona are single-family residential homes licensed by the state under Assisted Living Homes, and designed for adults with disabilities and those individuals requiring continual assistance to
complete daily living and self-care tasks. Though residents do typically have a physical, medical, or mental disorder that restricts their abilities to live on their own, they are able to keep their privacy, security, autonomy and dignity by living within assisted living homes with additional assistance in the areas that pose a challenge.
These residences are small communities with no more than ten residents per building. Group homes are considered most affordable assisted living services for seniors requiring assistance with daily living activities and Alzheimer’s care. Although most group homes in Arizona provide long-term care, some residents eventually acquire the necessary skills to move to more independent living situations. Others may return to their natural families after short rehabilitative stay.
One of the goals of Arizona Group Home living, is to increase the independence of residents. Group home staff members teach residents daily living and self-care skills, providing as little assistance as possible.
- meal preparation,
- laundry,
- housecleaning,
- home maintenance and appropriate social interactions.
Self-care skills include
- bathing or showering,
- getting in and out of bed,
- dressing,
- toileting,
- eating, and taking prescribed medications.
Staff also assure that residents receive necessary services from community service providers, including
- medical care,

- physical therapy,
- occupational therapy,
- vocational training,
- education, and mental health services.
Over the past 25 years, many studies have examined the impact of group home care on residents. These studies have consistently shown increases in adaptive behavior, productivity, community integration, and level of independence. Other factors that contribute to group home success are a small staff-to-resident ratio, well-trained staff, and a home-like atmosphere. As with any type of organization, some group homes are better run than others. A careful investigation into a home’s procedures is recommended.
Security, health, and comfort is the primary goal of all Arizona assisted living homes. Therefore, they allow seniors to move in contentedly and enjoy their retirement without the fear or vulnerability often associated with living alone.
The arrangement of assisted living homes offers an intimate feel with the benefits of a larger facility. Though not considered an alternative to a senior’s home, many seniors find that it is the ideal fit for their needs.
